Eligibility

Applicants must be an undergraduate student and a US Citizen/Permanent Resident attending one of the following U.S. partner institutions. Summer 2022 applications will transfer over to the Summer 2023 applicant pool, although updated applications are welcome.

  • University of Florida
  • Northwestern University
  • Michigan Technological University
  • Louisiana State University (Existing Summer 2022 applicants only – no new applications will be accepted from LSU. If submitting updates, please indicate you already applied last year.)

Graduate students meeting above eligibility will be considered; however, preference will be given to undergraduates.

When to apply

  • Applications for Summer 2023 will be accepted starting October 8, 2022.
  • Application deadline is January 31, 2023.
  • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

All materials, including recommendation letter(s), must be received by this date. Applications and letters received after this date will not be reviewed. All materials must be received by this date. Applications will be screened for web-based interviews with potential host lab advisers. Selected students will be notified in February.

    • The 2-page personal statement should include:
      1. Why are you interested in participating in IRiKA?
      2. What specific research area you are interested in and why?
      3. An explanation of any relevant work or class experiences
      4. Your career objectives.
  • unofficial or official academic transcripts

In addition, up to two (2) recommendation letters should be sent by the letter writer directly, addressed to Prof. Gloria Kim (nsf.irika@gmail.com).
